Report on Free Eye Check-up and Cataract Surgery Camp

The Free Eye Check-up and Cataract Surgery Camp was successfully organized by Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jalpaiguri on Saturday, 7th February 2026, in collaboration with Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital. The camp was conducted with the objective of providing quality eye care services to the underprivileged and needy sections of society.

A five-member medical team, comprising experienced doctors and paramedical staff from Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital, rendered their services valuable during the camp. A total of 200 OPD patients were examined on the day.

Detailed eye examinations were carried out, which included:

  • Extraocular movements / alignment / tension tests: 46 patients
  • Slit-lamp examinations: 16 patients 
  • Pupillary tests: 11 patients

As part of the camp services, 52 patients were provided with spectacles, and 42 patients were advised cataract surgery (out of them 7 patients were undergone surgery) after thorough medical evaluation. All consultations, examinations, medical advice, medicines, and spectacles were provided completely free of cost, ensuring access to quality eye care for all beneficiaries.

All the monastics, volunteers, and staff of the Ashrama actively participated in the organizing and smooth conduct of the camp.

At the beginning of the camp, tea and snacks were served to the patients, and at the conclusion, cooked prasad was served to all, reflecting the Ashrama’s spirit of service, care, and hospitality.

The camp was conducted smoothly with the active cooperation of volunteers and was highly appreciated by the beneficiaries. Such initiatives reaffirm the Ashrama’s continued commitment to humanitarian service and community healthcare.
