125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Addresses

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jalpaiguri, in commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Addresses conducted programmes on 11 , 18, 19 and 20 September 2018 at Jalpaiguri and Siliguri.

11 September 2018, Jalpiguri

The inaugural programme was organized on 11 September 2018 at the Rabindra Bhavan, Samajpara, Jalpaiguri. More than 600 people including registered delegates of different schools and colleges and admirers and devotees were present. The programme started at 3.30 pm with the holy sound of conch to reminiscence the event. Sri Samir Kumar Dasgupta, Dr.Ichchamuddin Sarkar, Retired Professor of North Bengal University and Sri Amitava Maity, Supdt of Police, Jalpaiguri were the speakers. The themes of the speeches were mostly related to the Inaugural day of the Chicago Addresses. Apart from this, Scholarship in cash was distributed to the 30 (Thirty) most poor and indigent students. A colorful cultural programme related to Swami Vivekananda’s life and teachings were performed by the educational Institutions. Sri Mihir Banerjee addressed his vote of thanks to the audience.  The programme concluded at 8.30 pm.


18 September 2018, Siliguri

A day-long programme was organized in Siliguri town at the Uttar Banga Marwari Palace (Utsav Vatika). The programme was conducted in two sessions.

In the morning session (9:00 am to 2.00 pm), a Youth convention was held. More than 1200 registered students and Youths of 45 Educational and other Institutions participated in the convention. Revered Swami Shashankananda, Vimalatmananda , Tattwarupananda and Nityasatyananda attended the function , conducted Guided Meditation and delivered lectures on the topics based on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Among the Guest speakers were Sri Chakravarthy Sulibele from Bengaluru. National Song and Anthem was sung by students. A beautiful instrumental performance of patriotic songs was organised by local Indian Army unit at Sukna, Siliguri.

In the evening session (3:30 pm to 8:30 pm) Swami Divyananda, Shashankananda, Vimalatmananda , Tattwarupananda and Nityasatyananda and the Guest speaker conducted Guided Meditation and delivered lectures on the topics based on Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. Around 250 persons from various walks of life participated in the programme. Apart from various discourses, classical Bhajans by Chandan Kapuria of Kolkata , songs by Swami Tattwarupananda were performed. Odissi dance was performed by Sri Jagat Jyoti Banerjee.  The Vote of Thanks was given by Sri Gouranga Chandra Das.


19 September 2018, Jalpiguri

A Devotees’ Conference was held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jalpaiguri. More than 350 registered delegates attended the programme which started  at 9.00 am . Swami Divyananda, Shashankananda, Vimalatmananda , Tattwarupananda and Nityasatyananda and the Guest Speakers attended the programme. Swami Tattwarupananda performed bhajans and hymns on Sri Sri Durga and also conducted Guided Meditation. Sri Chandan Kapuria performed Bhajans. The discourses/lectures were mostly confined to the  life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks by Swami Jitamohananda.


20 September 2018, Jalpiguri

In the morning session (9.00 Am to 2.00 Pm), a Youth convention was organized wherein  800 registered Delegates(Youth and Students)  from 48 educational  and other Institutions participated. Swami Divyananda, Shashankananda, Vimalatmananda , Tattwarupananda and Nityasatyanan and Guest Speakers were attended the programme and delivered lectures on topics based on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The function started with beautiful patriotic tunes performed by the District Police Band. The session was ended with Vote of Thanks given by Rev. Dr.Subhendu Bhusan Modak and National anthem was sung by students. Tea, Snacks, Lunch and complimentary gifts have been provided to the all the participants.

In the evening session (5.30 Pm to 9.00 Pm) the above mentioned Revered monks and Guest speaker delivered various speeches on the topics based on Holy-Trio. Around 350 persons from various walks of life participated in the programme. At the end Odissi dance was  performed.  Sri Deb Kumar Ghosh gave the Vote of thanks.

All the programmes were conducted in Bengali, Hindi and English. Around 4000 people were benefited by them.
